Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry
Even the most subtle change in your smile can make a dramatic difference in the way you look and feel. Dr. Foster and his staff are available to help you explore options of achieving a more attractive smile. Give our office a call to discuss what we can do to enhance your smile. Among the alternatives we offer for aesthetic enhancement are: |
|
 |
Color Enhancement and Bleaching
Bleaching brightens discolored teeth. It can be performed on all types of teeth but certain types of discoloration are more difficult to remove. In addition, some patients' teeth will lighten more than others. There are two types of bleaching procedures: those done completely in the dental office (chairside bleaching), or those dispensed by the dentist to be used at home (nightguard bleaching). The advantages of bleaching are that it's economical and does not require tooth removal.

Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are thin pre-shaped shells made of tooth-colored materials that are designed to cover the front side of teeth. They are affixed directly to the tooth, usually without the need for an anesthetic. Veneers can chip or peel if not cared for properly, so good oral hygiene is important. Once teeth are veneered they may need to be periodically re-veneered.

Bonding
Bonding is a procedure in which tooth-colored materials are applied to the enamel. Bonding covers discolorations, repairs chips and cracks and fills in gaps. Bonding is often completed in one visit and does not require the use of anesthesia or drilling. Periodically, bonding may need to be replaced.

Ceramic Crowns
Ceramic crowns have been developed and strengthened so that a metal base is no longer needed--new all ceramic crowns look like natural teeth. Ceramic crowns can be effectively used to improve smiles by covering the dark blue line around the gum caused by the porcelain and metal crowns. We can match the shade of porcelain to your normal tooth color so it looks absoultely natural! The ceramic crown is carefully contoured and shaded to create an ideal look and fit.

Permanent Tooth Replacement
Teeth can be lost by accident, decay or bone loss. When one or more teeth are missing, the remaining teeth often drift out of position, placing stress on adjacent tissues and teeth. Eating, speaking and chewing may be more difficult. A bridge is a replacement tooth that is supported and attached by a crown on either side ot the space. The two side teeth (anchor teeth) are prepared to provide support for the bridge.

Aesthetic Reshaping
Aesthetic shaping is one of the many terms used to describe a process of shaping natural teeth to improve their appearance. When teeth become crowded or uneven, or the canines seem too long, enamel shaping may be used to correct the flaw. Enamel shaping is usually quick and painless. Now anesthesia is necessary when shaping the enamel, and the results can be seen immediately.
